Quick thinking key in patient’s care

October 31, 2014

October 2014 potraitA Sunstar crew consisting of Hank Geiter, RN, paramedic Doug Frost and EMT Jon Hart responded to a call at Bardmoor Emergency Center to transport a patient. Shortly after arriving at the routine call, a second patient arrived near the ambulance and communicated that he had chest pain before collapsing in the parking lot.

Because of the critical and time-sensitive needs of this patient, the Bardmoor staff looked to the Sunstar team for help. Geiter, Frost and Hart quickly recognized the critical nature of the symptoms and made the unified decision to transport him to Morton Plant Hospital, which has equipment to visualize the heart.

Due to the Sunstar crew’s ability to quickly assess the situation and provide efficient transportation, the patient was diagnosed at the hospital and later discharged without further complications.

The crew’s quick thinking was key to providing exemplary patient care. In recognition, Geiter, Frost and Hart were presented with the Sunstar Care Plus Award in October 2014.

The Sunstar Care Plus Award is an internal award used to recognize employees for their excellence in patient care, professionalism and efficiency. Award winners are nominated by their co-workers and selected by Sunstar’s employee engagement and retention committee.
