On May 20, a mock domestic terrorism attack was staged at Pinellas Park High School. The annual event called Disaster Day is chance for Pinellas Park First Responders Magnet Program seniors to put their classroom skills to use in a mock scenario. This year’s Disaster Day mock scenario was an oil truck that had crashed into two school buses.

Sunstar Paramedics joined other local first responders to guide the students in providing realistic mock assessments and act as if they were performing medical treatment for the patients, roles also played by fellow students.

WFLA News Channel 8’s John Rodgers was on-scene to talk with Gisselle Rodriguez, the student public information officer, and Sunstar paramedic Chris Lewis.

Lewis was part of the Sunstar team observing the students who were transporting “patients” from the mock accident to the hospital. Sunstar demonstrated every step of transporting a patient, including securing them on a stretcher and safely loading the patient into the ambulance.
