Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners presents Sunstar EMT with the 2018 EMT of the Year award

Sunstar EMT Aaron Dill was selected as the 2018 Emergency Medical Technician of the Year and presented with this award at the County Commission meeting on May 15th, 2018.

“Known for being punctual, meticulous and always ready to help in case of an emergency,” is how Aaron Dill is described by his supervisors and the reason he was named EMT of the year. He is also known for his professionalism and his empathy for his patients.

During transports, EMT Dill asks patients if their homes are locked or if their pets are cared for and will help take care of their needs. He is always focused on the wellbeing of others.

“Just helping people every day, whatever that is that they need,” Dill explains.  “If they just need some comforting words or they need some actual intervention. Whatever I can do to help them to make them better.”

In 2017 Aaron and his partner were selected for a segment on ABC action news for Domestic Violence awareness. He also attended the Stress First Aid Support Training offered by Pinellas County so he could be helpful to his coworkers in a stressful situation.

While on the job, Aaron is known for giving money to a homeless veteran for bus fare and handing out bottled water to anyone he see’s holding up signs asking for help or food. Aaron also helps injured animals he comes across during his shift.

Dill’s decision to become an EMT was in part to honor his late father and make his younger sister proud. “I wanted to be a positive role model for her and someone she could look up to,” he said. “Something like this profession means a lot to me in that regard.”

When asked, Aaron stated “there is not one call that stands out to him”.  He wished there was one specific call that he could reference but for him it’s every call and every patient. He did not choose this career for bragging rights or to be a hero, he just wants to take care of others in need and make their bad day a little better.
