Sunstar crew commended for their dedication to patient care

May 2, 2016

Paramedic Pamela Driggers  and EMT Brandon Daly never expected the deplorable conditions they would encountered on February 22nd when they responded to a call for an unresponsive person.

As they made their way into the patients house they found human waste and insect infestation throughout the home as well as covering their elderly patient.  It appeared the patient had been in this condition for some time and was very sick.

Pam and Brandon kept their composure as they provided medical care and moved the patient from the living conditions to their ambulance. The patient was critically ill so they requested a Sunstar supervisor assist them with care enroute to the hospital.

During the transport the patient went into cardiac arrest, Paramedic Driggers provided  life support measures and patient regained pulses as EMT Daly pulled the ambulance up to the hospital.

With the circumstances behind the scenes and the condition of their patient and his home this was well above and beyond the type of call an EMS team usually responds to. This was one of the worst things imaginable for any paramedic or EMT to endure.

The crew  was commended by their supervisor and received the Care Plus award  for their hard work and dedication in caring for this patient, considering the harsh environment and the deplorable condition of the patient.
