Accreditation recognizes Sunstar Paramedics’ quality and safety processes

Sunstar Paramedics, the 911 service provider for Pinellas County residents, has been renewed as an accredited medical transport system by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). The accreditation recognizes Sunstar Paramedics as a high-quality critical care transport service.

To become an accredited, emergency medical services (EMS) programs undergo extensive evaluation over the course of at least four months. The process considers a range of criteria, from safety procedures and equipment management, to employee wellness policies and public education programs.

“Through the accreditation process, our peers have found that our processes for patient care and safety are among the top in the nation,” said John Peterson, chief operating officer for Sunstar Paramedics. “In turn, our community benefits from this level of care.”

The accreditation is voluntary for the EMS industry, and it lasts three years. Sunstar Paramedics has been continuously accredited with CAMTS since 2005.

In addition to CAMTS, Sunstar Paramedics is an accredited ambulance service by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) and an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) by the National/International Academies of Emergency Dispatch.

Sunstar Paramedics is one of only seven organizations in Florida and 158 in the nation that are accredited with CAMTS.Sunstar Paramedics is only one of three EMS providers in the U.S. to be accredited in all three programs.
